You will be part of the core team and will be responsible for managing the servers and operations of the GuestCentric applications based on Linux and open source technologies.
Identification and resolution of hardware, software, or architectural issues in any of the servers and storage systems supporting the GuestCentric production instances and/or hosts, especially those that directly impact the production GuestCentric service
Analyzing systems errors or anomalies, as well as specific server / storage performance issues and/or error messages, in order to ensure maximum uptime and service quality and assess trends that may ultimately result in degradation of service
Formulating and implementing monitoring, policies, procedures and standards relating to server and storage management
Participation in a 24×7 on-call rotation on a periodic basis; this requires functional knowledge of all GuestCentric production systems and subsystems outside of the networking layer in order to provide on-call support.
You must have recognized leadership skills, effective communication skills and be able to perform extremely complex technical task and lead teams, vendors, and contractors in projects/assignments/tasks major in scope and complexity. You will be called upon regularly to make decisions without direct supervision.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum 4 years managing critical infrastructure hands-on
Knowledge and Skills
Linux: Hands-on experience with Linux (Red Hat and CentOS). Expert user skills in Linux or UNIX operating systems and applications
Apache: Experience administering web servers and web server farms
MySQL: Database administration.
3-tiered web architecture: Familiarity with common web and application architectures, proxy servers, firewalls, client-side and server-side technologies. Knowledge of HTTP, DNS, and SSL.
Abilities
Passion: Passion for web applications. Enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility and a desire to work on an innovative international team.
Deadlines: Efficient time management and working to deadlines. Able to prioritize, execute and deliver projects on time;
English: GuestCentric is an international company and all work will be done in English. Good written and oral skills in English.
Travel: Ready to travel internationally at short notice in order to provide hands on assistance with emergency situations.
Desirable
Knowledge and experience of using Perl, shell scripting and command line tools.
Previous experience with content delivery networks is a plus.
A sense of humor.
